Fountain City, formerly Newport, is a town in Wayne County, Indiana, United States. The population was 796 at the 2010 census. It was formerly known as Newport. Quaker abolitionist and Underground Railroad leader Levi Coffin lived there from 1826 to 1847. ==History== Fountain City was originally called New Garden, and under the latter name was laid out in 1818.〔(【引用サイトリンク】 title=Fountain City, Indiana )〕 New Garden became Newport in 1834, which was renamed Fountain City in 1878.〔 It was incorporated as a town in 1844.〔
